Carrbridge Railway Station

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he station was opened on 8 July 1892 when the line to Aviemore opened. Services to Inverness commenced on 1 November 1898. The station building is thought to be by the architect William Roberts, dating from 1898.

Carrbridge itself grew as it was on the main route from Perth to Inverness at the crossing of the fast flowing River Dulnain, one of the main tributaries of the River Spey.

Initially the crossing had to be waded but eventually the first bridge was built over the River Dulnain between May and November 1717 by a mason called John Niccelsone. The bridge was paid for by Brigadier-General Alexander Grant of Grant at a cost of £100.
